We were blessed once again with beautiful sunny weather, as we meandered around the foot hills of the South Downs in West Sussex. The Singing Hills courses where resplendent, with the vineyards to the North, obviously South facing, and the very receptive greens.
The guests arrived in great form, some alas were challenged by the traditional night before discussions at the duke of York, Sayers Common, but having enjoyed their steadfast bacon rolls and coffee took to the morning’s challenge with gusto.
The traditional 4 ball Texas scramble competition found its way back to the Michael Punter’s team consisting of Richard “Big Dick” Simpson, Ian “Poysie “ Poysden and the elegant Nik Askaroff.
Lunch was enjoyed on the terrace as batteries were recharged and the main competition commenced, nearly 40 players went into battle, some faring better than others, but as ever we were only interested in the winners.
No count back this year, an outright winner, in the name of Roger Saxby, who not only won the cup, the invitation to play at Wentworth, but the MPHFGS hip flask for the second consecutive year,
The meal and prize giving followed with some notable gift being awarded, but more importantly the raffle for the local nominated charity raised an amazing £1,000.
