Over the past month, heavy rainfall from different storms across parts of Europe has caused massive amounts of flooding – some water moving slowly across river plains and farmland, some moving swiftly through cities and villages. Dozens have lost their lives, many thousands have been evacuated from their homes, some repeatedly and Hungary has been hit by some terrible floods – the worst in decades. Budapest itself was also affected with the Danube bursting its banks.
Naturally, the team at Parafix Hungary wanted to do all it could to help its fellow countrymen and volunteered to send a team to help with the clear-up work. However, due to the length of time that it would have taken to train the team in the correct procedures, sadly the relief organisations could not take up their kind offer.
In lieu of physical help, Parafix made a donation to the victim support fund and was delighted to receive a letter of thanks from director Ferenc Rétközi, who wrote:
“The emergency proclaimed in the territory of BORSOD-ABAUJ-ZEMPLEN county and the serious flooding, the worst in living memory, eventually came to an end, but it has not passed without trace.
It was noticeable that everyone was happy to help the people in trouble and the emergency forces. During the flood-defence, we received many donations from companies and individuals; offerings were varied, from food, clothes, labour and, drinking-water to equipment and tools. Every donation was welcome, large or small, as every Forint was important to those in trouble.
Your offering has been gratefully received. We thank you for your donation that has helped people restore their homes and land after the painful memories.”
The Parafix team sends a message of sympathy to everybody who has been affected by the flooding and wishes them a swift return to their homes.
