The most critical application for ostomy adhesive tapes is in ensuring that skin barriers or wafers and two piece flanges provide secure seals. Other tape requirements include being breathable, conformable and offering high user comfort for extended wear time. Any adhesive applied to the sensitive area around the stoma must remove cleanly and gently.
Bag inflation and odour control are further considerations; charcoal filters are used to remove odour and filtration materials must allow gas to escape whilst retaining liquids. Re-useable / drainable bags also require closure systems and designs typically include the use of stiffener materials and hook and loop fasteners.
