Here at Parafix we have some cycling enthusiasts who have, in the past, given their time to complete the Argus Appeal Cycle Challenge. The Argus Appeal is a community charity that aims to give assistance to those in need, in particular disadvantaged children, the elderly, the vulnerable and those with disabilities. One of their fund raising activities includes a number of South Down cycling challenges.
Previous cycle challenges completed have consisted of the 2011 South Downs Way Challenge in which an impressive 110 miles were covered along the Downs from Winchester to Eastbourne. Also, in 2012 the South Downs Devil, a route from Brighton to Eastbourne.
In 2013 a bigger challenge has been set. In August, Dave Moore (R&D Adviser and H&S Practitioner) and Paul Bickmore (Quality Assurance Technician) will set off on a Brighton to Paris cycle challenge. This will take them on quiet, less busy routes towards the Capital, along disused railway lines, canal paths and country roads, finishing in the heart of Paris.
Paul Bickmore said of the challenge: “After rekindling the cycling bug with a few Parafix supported charity bike rides over the last couple of years, it was time to set a new challenge. Encouraged by GB’s Olympic cycling success and Sir Bradley Wiggins Tour de France victory we felt the Argus Appeal’s 2013 Brighton to Paris ride was perfect. The added bonus of the ride to Paris is it would allow us to bring some well earned duty free back home for sensible consumption.”
Dave Moore followed this by saying: “It has even been suggested that our 2014 challenge should be a 1,000 mile ride from our Lancing office to our Hungarian site in Budapest.” Watch this space for more news on that!
Dave has set up a Just Giving donation page, that can be found here. We would very much appreciate donations to this worthy cause, however small. This can be done on the Just Giving page or through text message by sending CHEC54 £5 (or other sum) to 70070.
Should you wish to make a corporate donation we can display your company details/logo on cycling clothing and other promotional material.
