The Parafix Winter Golf League, consisting of five teams, had battled it out through the winter months with Mid Sussex being the eventual winners. This victory gave them the honour of hosting the Gala Day at Mid Sussex Golf Club on the 10th May 2009. The day began at 8am with coffee and bacon rolls on arrival; this was a good hearty start to what turned out to be a lovely day for all. Five teams from around and about the county - Mid Sussex, Singing Hills, Lindfield, Chichester and Hassocks were champing at the bit, eager to start and ready to fight for the prestigious trophies sponsored by Mike Punter of Parafix.
The weather was fine and the club captains from each team were first out, followed by the rest of the field of 60 players, who due to the large number of players were designated to start from both the 1st and 10th tees. The spirit of all the players was commendable, because after completing their round they remained on the front patio to encourage and cheer the rest of their team mates on.Â
Tension mounted as the scores were entered onto a large board in the foyer of the clubhouse and there was a deliberate ploy to keep them all guessing as to the final outcome as Allen Morgan (organiser for the day) kept the results of the final two matches close to his chest until after a superb meal of chicken chasseur followed by apple pie cooked by the Chef and his staff had been served.Â
Before the final presentation of the trophies by Mike Punter, the nearest the pin winners were announced with Ben Neve from Singing Hills winning on the 5th hole, Michael Brook from Mid Sussex winning on the 8th, Steve Richardson from Mid Sussex winning on the 13th hole and Phil Way from Chichester winning the 15th hole.Â
The Parafix Gala Day was won by Mid Sussex and it was an extremely close match towards the end as Chichester was only 2 pts behind at the finish. It was really down to the last player of the match to gain the victory for Mid Sussex. Mike Punter rounded the evening off with a speech where he hoped everyone had enjoyed themselves and he made the promise to keep sponsoring the event for the next four years.Â
Congratulations to everybody who has taken part throughout the year and we look forward to seeing you all again through the coming winter months.Â
